Whether you are currently expecting or planning a new addition to your family, you deserve to be supported and feel prepared for the journey of pregnancy! You also deserve to have a smooth postpartum recovery where you can spend quality time with your new bub.
Created by a Women's Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, the Prenatal BABEs program was designed to safely guide expecting mothers through one of the most challenging and beautiful times of their lives.
The program sheds light on the following must-know information for all expecting mamas:
- What is normal or not during for your body during pregnancy and early motherhood - so you can seek help if needed.
- How you can reduce your risk of pelvic floor issues, abdominal separation, and pelvic pain during and after pregnancy.
- What you can do to help set yourself up for a smooth postpartum recovery - so you can spend stress-free time with your beautiful baby.
- How to get back to what you love with who you love safely postpartum.
- Provides you with movements, habits, and lifestyle changes that you can implement today that will set you up for lifelong pelvic health.
Pregnancy often comes with a whirlwind of organising and learning, including reading parenting and birthing books, getting essentials like a pram, baby clothes, and nappies for bub, not to mention planning for maternity leave, and ensuring good prenatal nutrition and supplements. However, preparing your body for pregnancy and childbirth is just as essential, especially if you want to improve your chances of a smooth postpartum recovery.
The Importance of Being Prepared
I'm going to let you in on a secret most women aren't aware of - your postpartum recovery starts right now! Before your bub arrives, before your birth, even before you become pregnant. Setting yourself up for the best possible postpartum recovery means preparation.
If you were going to run a marathon, you would, of course, train for it first. This would help you to build up the physical endurance, motor patterns, and strength required to complete this amazing task. While there are certainly many factors that can affect pregnancy and delivery if you want to have a comfortable pregnancy, a smooth delivery, and a good recovery postpartum, preparing and moving your body well during (or even before) your pregnancy can help you achieve that goal.
I've treated hundreds of women over the years for a wide range of post pregnancy issues, and one question I frequently hear that breaks my heart is:
"Why didn't anyone tell me this could happen beforehand?"
Many women didn't even know that these dysfunctions - pelvic floor issues like prolapse and bowel dysfunction, or abdominal separation - were even a possibility during and after pregnancy, or that there was actually something that could be done to help reduce the severity or their risk of these issues BEFORE baby came.
I don't want that to happen to you. I don't want you to have to have to deal with the stress and pain that I see many of my patients go through as a result of pregnancy and birth related issues! I wouldn't wish this one any woman, especially a new mama!
Did you know:
- 1 in 3 women experience incontinence after pregnancy (Bø, et al.,2001)
- Up to 67.5% of all women will experience some form of pelvic floor dysfunction in their lives. (Kepenekci, et al., 2011)
- 45% of first-time mums still showed an abdominal separation of 2 finger widths or greater at 6 months postpartum, and 32% at 12 months. (Sperstad, et al., 2016)
Not inspiring statistics by any means and a trend I'd love to stop in its tracks. These pelvic floor issues are also the very reason I've created this course, I've never been more convinced of its necessity based on the patients that I'm often seeing at my practice. The modern world is a tough place for your body and your pelvis, as many of the functional movements and habits that we would have completed naturally are now no longer part of our daily routine - resulting in ever increasing pregnancy-related dysfunctions.
I designed the Prenatal BABEs as a step-by-step program to reduce your risk of pregnancy and birth related issues and set you up for a smooth recovery postpartum - The blueprint for you to help prepare yourself for the best postpartum recovery if you will.
